Once again it is that time of year that we, the Shire of Arrows' Flight, do call upon the most noble and chivalrous folk of our great kingdom. We invite you to join us this day and show all the honor and generosity of our most noble society. The year is 1400 and we are somewhere in Greece, and it's Christmas Day. For days now everyone at the castle has been busy preparing the special food dishes to be served that night in the Grand Hall. All the castles rooms and halls have been cleaned and decorated in preparation for this special day and now all are waiting for the arrival of you, our guests and friends, so the fun and games can begin. Feast: “The Marriage of Henry VIII & Catherine of Aragon” combining sumptuous dishes of 16th century England and Spain. During the feast we will hold our annual contest for the Bard of Silver Hammer. Please prepare an original filk to participate. Planned Activities Include: Tourney of the Silver Hammer (Heavy), Rapier Tourney, with War Practice to follow. Western Keep is holding Raid on the Mountain in Brookings as a local one day event, NOT our regular weekend camping at Hole in the Mountain campground at Lake Benton, MN. This event is to prepare and authorize fighters for Cecil's Siege (Fall Coronation in Vermillion, SD). We will meet on the south end of Hillcrest Park, in the elementary school parking lot next to the shelters. We will have heavy weapons and light weapons, but no throwing or archery since we're in city limits. The park has a playground area for children, modern plumbing, and is connected to the city aquatics park (one day pool pass is $3.00 per person, which gives you access to showers and snack booth). Grendel, a new opera from Tony Award-winning director Julie Taymor, opened recently at the Lincoln Center Festival. Based on Beowulf but told from the monster's point of view, the opera is sung in Old English by the humans while Grendel sings in contemporary language.

On the northern border of the Barony of Gryphon's Lair lies a vast marsh land that some would argue belongs to the bordering Shire (why anyone would want to claim a marsh nobody knows, but that is not the point). Several years ago the lands were disputed and from this the Midge Marsh Melee was created. The Barony, for some reason, wants to keep hold of the marshlands and to honor this, and their first birthday, we invite all to come to this grand event and enjoy. The Shire of Sterlynge Vayle welcomes all back to the Damp Dragon Inn for Bards and Bows on September 1 - 3, 2006. This event will be held at Camp Sertoma, Johnson Road (no number), in Windsor, NY. The site opens at 7:00 PM on Friday and closes at 10:00 AM on Sunday. Anyone still lingering after then will be pressed into service for site clean up.
This event will offer archery events of all kinds including target archery, royal rounds, team combat pairing combat archers with heavy fighters, and even an archery combat style game that any good gentle can play! Though this event does focus on archery, we will not be ignoring those who want to whack people with big sticks. We will be having a heavy weapons tourney in the form of a Viking Cloak Tournament, as well as fencing combat.
