This is a combined Tournaments and Dance event. There will be heavy, rapier, and chess tournaments as well as dancing all day, and a Masquerade Dance Ball through the evening. Everyone is encouraged to bring masks to add to the ambiance. We planned this event soon after Halloween for a reason!

Milords and ladies, all are invited to join in the festivities as Lyondemere raises their goblets to their beloved Baroness Angelina Nicolette de Beaumont at this, the first Baroness' Bardic and Birthday Banquet Saturday, November 1, 2008.
Prepare for an evening of bardic, revelry, gaming, bardic, dancing, feasting, and maybe some bardic thrown in for good measure. This early evening event will start off with a "beginners welcome" open bardic circle. You say you prefer to spend your time on a good game of chess or backgammon? Tables will be set up for play and some games will be provided. But if you have a favorite Tarot deck or would like to challenge someone to the new period game you just learned, feel free to bring it along. Other creative games are being invented to increase the revelry and social time. I'm not making any promises but "Gondola Races" anyone?

This event is intended to be a fun get together of people interested in the Arts and Sciences to share and learn about different types of Arts and Sciences and get ideas and feed back. This is not an Arts and Sciences competition but instead a forum of sorts to learn, teach, and share with each other. There will also be a fighting demo on Friday where we hope to have both rapier and heavy fighting. This will be on the University of Minnesota campus and is intended to get the attention of students and show off the fun things we do.

The year was Anno Societatis 18. His most noble and Gracious Majesty, King Olaf Askoldsson was traveling the southern reaches of his Kingdom, and came upon a Mountain, Hidden at the southern tip of Atlantia. King Olaf found the people there to be good, strong, and wise. He and his beautiful Queen Aislinn Schattenwald saw fit to charter a Barony in these southern lands, and was inspired to named it for the mountain he had found. He ordered the populace to choose leaders for their new Barony, and with His Blessing, Eldon Ungol of the Phoenix and Marie-Simone de Barjavel la Fildena became the first Baron and Baroness of these new lands. Then, as the night fell, the Mountain became Hidden once more, only to reappear once a year, to celebrate her recognition and the work by these fine people, and all who have followed.

“'We give that learning back to the public by educating them. Then we encourage them to join us,' said Dirk Hermance, who was dressed in the loose-fitting clothing of a northern European merchant from the early 15th century." Hermance was speaking about the demo hosted by members of the Shire of Rivenvale recently in Youngstown, Ohio. Reporter Don Shilling of the Vindicator had the story. (photos)
