Author and scientist Peter L. Manly, known in the SCA as Lord Peter of Barony Atenveldt (or Peter the Rock, Peter of House Staghold), passed away at the VA Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona on July, 27, 2007, just shy of his 62nd birthday.

TRM Morgan and Livia, King and Queen of Atenveldt, announced that the Kingdoms of Caid, the Outlands and Artemisia have accepted Their invitation to participate as Principal Kingdoms at the next Estrella War XXIV (Feb 12-18, 2008).

"Introduced to Phoenix in 1969 by Rick Cook and Mike Reynolds, Atenveldt became the first barony recognized by the SCA," writes Sadie Joe Smokey in a recent article for the Arizona Republic. Cook, who was also Atenveldt's first king, was on hand to share in the celebration.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of a milestone in the SCA. On March 13, 1977, Trude Lacklandia became the first female Knight of the Society. She was knighted, along with Randall von Nordlichwald, Henrich der Jaeger and Helm Egilsson of Birka, by TRM Deaton II & Care-Cheri II of Atenveldt.
