On Saturday, February 27, 2010 Southern Shores will be hosting a Heraldic Gathering at His Grace, Duke Cariadoc's home to assist as many as we possibly can to create submissions to the College of Heralds for their Devices and SCA names.

Olwynn ni Chinneidigh, Laurel Queen of Arms of the Society for Creative Anachronism, and Juliana de Luna, Palimpsest Herald, are seeking feedback on policies and procedures for heraldic submissions within the SCA. Deadline in January 31, 2010.

All are welcome to a day of classes for both heralds and scribes, including some crossover material, like how to read the tricky hand that you're sure was done by a drunken weasel that the award scroll is in, and what exactly does "a fish counter-urinant, rayonny-fitchy pean" mean. Ines Alfon reports that Their Majesties of Calontir offered elevation to the Order of the Pelican to Dorcas Whitecap at the recent Spring Fling event.

Once you have registered your arms in the SCA, what should you do with them? Herald Coblaith Muimnech took this concept as a challenge and researched "50 ways to use your arms." He hopes to inspire others to use their heraldry more freely.

It is with the very greatest sadness that we note the unexpected passing of David of Moffat. He died on Sunday, December 21, 2008 of complications of diabetes at the much-too-tender age of 45, and by his long-known request there will be no memorial service.

The Known World Heraldic and Scribal Symposium 2007 will be held in the Barony of Lyondemere, Kingdom of Caid, in the Crowne Plaza Hotel a few blocks from LAX airport. There was so much to do, we couldn't cram it all into one weekend. The dates are Thursday, June 14 through Sunday, June 17, 2007. The event cost is $30 per person until April 1, $35 April 2 through May 15, and $40 May 16 thereafter and at the door.
