For years, officials at Wales' 12th century Cardigan Castle have dreamed of raising funding to restore the castle and turn it into a heritage center and site for open-air concerts. The castle is believed to be the birthplace of the eisteddfod, a festival of poetry and music, dating to the 12th century.

The Higgins Armory Museum, much beloved of SCAdians, will be closing at the end of the year. The museum houses one of the biggest collections of arms and armor in the United States.

For centuries, the 100 ft. (30.5 metre) tall David's Tower dominated the skyline of Edinburgh, Scotland until it was destroyed during the Lang Siege of 1573. Long forgotten, the demolished tower was rediscovered in 1912 and feted today, 100 years later. (video)

Roch Castle near Haverfordwest, Wales has had a UK£6m facelift and conversion as a "corporate retreat". During the two-year renovation, the 13th century castle was "completely wrapped in plastic."

It was good news and bad news for officials at Stirling Castle in Scotland. A wall retaining late 15th century garden terraces collapsed, but the collapse now affords the opportunity to investigate remnants of gardens made for James IV.

For the past ten years, the Friends of Cardigan Castle in Wales have been hoping to raise money for restoration of the 12th Century building, the first stone castle built by the Welsh princes and the stronghold of Rhys ap Gruffydd. Now they have received an award of UK£4.5m European money.
