University College London has created an online project to share research on the distribution of surnames throughout Great Britain. The project traces the history of family names as well as their geography.

Miles Atherton de Grey, once the first herald of the Midrealm's Shire of Mynydd Seren (Bloomington IN), and lately of Northshield's Barony of Nordskogen (area around Minneapolis MN), is no more. Many who did not know him by his SCA name will remember his novels, stories, poems, and wargaming works under his mundane name, John M. Ford.

Heralds' Fall Collegium
It isn't just for heralds anymore. Are you new royalty, on a guard, a court member, or a Head-of-Court? Could you be one soon? Do you work in an office that interacts with the heralds at events? Have you ever wondered why heralds do things the way they do? We've got an event for you!
Classes start at 10 am.
Classes that are from 10 - 12:30 are aimed at heralds but all are welcome; classes from 1:30 - 4:30 are geared towards heralds, royalty, guard, and court members.

Think heraldry is an activity for creaky, old SCAdians in dusty libraries? Think again. The United States Army has The Quartermaster Heraldic Section and the U.S. Army Institute of Heraldry.
A website with examples of military heraldry and a history of heraldry in the American Army is available to view online.

It's out of the SCA time period, but Project Gutenberg, which is a free, digitized collection of books, has posted a copy of The Manual of Heraldry; Fifth Edition published in the mid 19th century.

Police in Middlesbrough, England have recruited heralds to accompany them on rounds to act as town criers. The heralds use their trained voices to warn citizens to lock their doors.

John Brooke-Little, Clarenceux King of Arms of England, who did much through his persuasive writings to advance an interest in the subject of heraldry, died on Feb. 13, 2006 at the age of 78.

Lady Sara de Lindley, Aethelmearc Chief Silent Herald, has put out a call to all Silent Heralds to take part in a special program to work with the Pennsic Chirurgeonate. In a continuation of last year's successful program, Silent Heralds are being asked to aid hearing-impaired patients at the War.
