Sir Ian McKellen stars in "King Lear"

Sir Ian McKellen, known for his role of Gandolf in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, will take on a new role when he appears as the title character in Shakespeare's King Lear.

The play is being presented at the Harvey Theater of the Brooklyn Academy of Music by the Royal Shakespeare Company as part of a set of plays which also includes Chekhov’s Seagull. The role of Lear's fool is being played by Sylvester McCoy, best known as the seventh Doctor Who.

The play runs through September 30, 2007.
