The Raphael Stanzas, which decorate the walls of papal apartments, were painted in the early 16th century. During the restoration, which included repair of the walls, experts discovered some of the artist's notes and leftovers from a Renaissance lunch.
Raphael restorations nearly complete

30 years after work began, the restoration of Renaissance master Raphael's frescoes in the Vatican is nearly complete. The restoration is scheduled to be completed within a year.
