The print is believed to be from the sandal of a Roman legionnaire. The only other sandal prints found have been those of soldiers at Hadrian's Wall. Researchers believe that the owner of the sandal may have been a former soldier who kept his Roman footgear.

The footprint of a hobnailed sandal has caused quite a stir since it was discovered during work at the Roman city of Sussita, east of Lake Kinneret in Israel.
