Byzantine Cistern Discovered in Nazareth

A 1,000-year-old Byzantine cistern has been discovered near a Christian shrine in Nazareth. Archaeologists working on the Basilica of the Annunciation, a Christian shrine, have discovered a 1,000-year-old cistern.

"It's built out of rock from the crusader period with an arched interior," said Uzi Shamir, a Israeli Housing Authority official.

The Israel Antiquities Authority plans further excavations at the site.
