Library of Congress Opens Exhibition on Ancient Manuscripts of Timbuktu

An exhibition titled "Ancient Manuscripts from the Desert Libraries of Timbuktu" has opened at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. The exhibit, which runs from June 24 through September 3 in the South Gallery of the Great Hall in the Thomas Jefferson Building, features manuscripts dating back as far as the 16th century on subjects such as mathematics, physics, astronomy, secular literature and Koranic teachings. The exhibition is held in conjunction with the Smithsonian Folklife Festival on the National Mall, which will feature the cultural heritage of Mali, as well as Scotland and Appalachia.
