Restoration of Rosslyn Chapel to Reveal Secrets?

Scottish Life: A restoration of the sealed vaults of Rosslyn Chapel could reveal long-buried secrets. Rosslyn Chapel is a full of secrets. Legend has named it the resting place of a lost Gospel, the Holy Grail and the Ark of the Covenant. Now a new restoration project may reveal some of its mystery.

The chapel was built in 1446 by Sir William St Clair, third Prince of Orkney, in the Scottish county of Midlothian, but parts are said to be from a much earlier period. The chapel also has legendary connections to Robert the Bruce, the Freemasons, Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Knights Templar. Documentation supports the theory that the St. Clair family has owned great treasures which could still be hidden in the closed vaults.

The renovation of the chapel itself has already begun. Time will tell whether or not the vaults will give up their secrets.

Chapel Carvings

I was in Rosslyn Chapel last month, and it was a very moving experience. The place is magical with carvings on every possible surface. Over 200 "green men" are hidden within the carvings.

An early Earl of Rosslyn supposedly sailed west and wintered in strange lands. One of the carvings in the chapel clearly shows South American Maize, carved either from a drawing or by instruction from the Earl. Regardless, the carving was made before Columbus was born.

The Chapel lies a few short miles south of Edinburgh, and is a "MUST SEE" for anyone on holiday in the area. Be sure to visit the graveyard and take the walk to the old Rosslyn Castle ruins. Magic lives here.
