Dig set for Edinburgh's Cowgate

Archaeologists are preparing to begin a major dig at the site of the 2002 Old Town fire in Edinburgh's Cowgate district. They hope to find the remains of buildings dating as far back as the 12th century.

The site was heavily populated in the 15th and 16th centuries, mainly by the rich dubbing the area "the palaces of the Cowgate," but written evidence seems to indicate that the site should hold artifacts and possibly buildings.
