moving to permanent server -- UPDATED

Due to technical problems, the server move scheduled for tonight has been postponed, and will be rescheduled in a few days.

Original notice

Some time after 18:00 EDT (22:00 GMT) on April 21, will be completing the second (and final) stage of our server migration, this time moving from our current temporary home onto our new permanent server. Readers may experience a brief outage this evening.

A few weeks ago, moved onto a temporary server so that our permanent server could be upgraded to a new operating system version and new application software. We are now ready to complete the process by moving the web site and mailing lists back onto the upgraded permanent server.

Our web address (URL) will not change as a result of this move. Also, users' personal accounts will be migrated transparently; you will not lose your settings or password.

During the transition, most readers will not experience any outage, but a few may find that the site is down for a period ranging from several minutes to a few hours. This depends on the domain name service (DNS) of your local internet provider, and is not under our control.

Those who use Windows may find that the new DNS information is never accepted by your computer, and may need to reboot to find the new server. Unfortunately, this is due to a bug in certain versions (mostly older versions) of Windows, and there is nothing we can do to prevent the problem.

As always, we apologize for any inconvenience caused by this move.

From this point forward, when you see's home page without this notice, you will know that your browser has found the new server.
