A lecture on the "Ancient Art of Sword Making" will be given November 5, 2002
at RPI in Troy, NY. The speaker will be Dr. Daniel Eylon from the University of
Dayton.
On November 5, 2002, Dr. Daniel Eylon from the University of Dayton, will
deliver a lecture on "The Ancient Art of Sword Making" at Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. Dr.
Eylon is a professor in the Graduate Materials Engineering Program and, for the
past ten years, has done extensive research in powder, casting and high
temperature titanium alloy technologies. He is a graduate in Materials
Engineering from Technion Israel Institute and is a Fellow of the ASM (FASM).
The lecture will concentrate on the development of alloys to perfect the method
of sword making in Egyptain, Greek, Chinese, Roman, Damascus, Korean and
Japanese cultures, and will include recent microstructural studies that have
cast more light on the subject.
A dinner, from 6:30-7:30 pm, will preceed the lecture. The cost is $15
for adults, $10 for retirees and $7 for students. Pre-registration is required.
