The Tudors come to Showtime

Jonathan Rhys-Meyers will star as the young Henry VIII in Showtime's new series The Tudors. The series begins Sunday April 1, 2007 at 20:00 (EST).

The director of the popular series Desperate Housewives, Charles McDougall, takes on Tudor England in this ten-episode series.

According to the program description:

Jonathan Rhys Meyers ("Match Point") stars in this original, history-based drama series as the young, vibrant King Henry 8, a competitive and lustful monarch who navigates the intrigues of the English court and the human heart with equal vigor and justifiable suspicion. Sam Neill ("Cardinal Wolsey"), Natalie Dormer ("Anne Boleyn"), Henry Czerny ("Norfolk"), Jeremy Northam ("Thomas More") and Maria Doyle Kennedy ("Queen Katherine") round out the all-star cast of this lavish epic.
