Be one of the "Happy Few" Compleat Anachronist writers

Tonwen ferch Gruffudd Aur, Editor of The Compleat Anachronist, sends out a call to the Known World to consider writing for the publication.

WE FEW... WE HAPPY FEW WRITING FOR THE COMPLEAT ANACHRONIST

During my first weeks as the new editor of The Compleat Anachronist (CA), I’ve had a chance to talk to a lot of people about writing for the CA. Many of those people have told me that they would really like to write an issue of the CA “some day.”

How about today?

Where else in the SCA can you showcase your artistry and expertise the way you can in the CA? Where else can you get the print space and the resources to share your knowledge with thousands of subscribers from all over the Known World? Writing an issue of a CA can be an exciting, fun and challenging experience. Seeing your copies arrive in the mail with your name on the cover gives a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment that is difficult to describe.

So, what’s stopping you?

Some potential authors feel like their special area of interest is too unusual to appeal to anyone else, or is too limited to fit the scope of the CA. Others feel intimidated by the process of writing such an in-depth piece, or life keeps getting in the way of sitting down and working on a manuscript. There can be so many reasons to not write a manuscript for the CA, that since the publication of the first issue in July 1982, fewer than 133 people have done it.

Wouldn’t you like to be one of them?

If you have an area of special interest that excites you to talk about, that gives you goose bumps when other people listen to what you have to say with eagerness and curiosity, and every day brings more opportunity to learn yet more about your art, then I want you to write for The Compleat Anachronist. It doesn’t matter if you have never written a paper before in your life. It doesn’t matter if your topic of interest is too weird or too unusual, or if you think you can’t possibly write 40-60 pages on what you love best. That’s why I’m here. It’s my job, my honor and my very great pleasure to help the extraordinarily talented people in this organization share their passion with the rest of the Known World.

If you think you have it in you to join those 133 others, contact me and let’s talk about your ideas. I can be reached by:
