The Dominion of Myrkfaelinn extends an invitation to one and all to visit us for a day of game(s). There will be a variety of medieval board games for all to learn and play including the wee ones. There will be heavy fighting, boffers, and fencing (if we get a marshal). Also there will be some game to eat! Heavy fighting will take place at our wonderful indoor location, though the marshal might move some activities outdoors, weather permitting. There will be children's activities, dancing for all and a prize for whomever plays the most different games during the day (fighting/fencing does count)!
For your culinary sampling, Christine MacGregor and her staff will be providing a variety of game/game themed food for sideboard lunch and for our evening feast, though more familiar options will also be available for the gastronomically unadventurous. Any dietary questions or concerns may be forwarded to Christine MacGregor (Donna MacTavish firstname.lastname@example.org Feast is limited to 40 gentles, so please reserve your space early - and remember, the only good reservation is a paid reservation.
All of these marvelous activities will be taking place at gorgeous medieval Risley Hall on the Cornell University campus (515 Thurston Ave, Ithaca, NY 14850). Doors open at 10am and the site closes at 9pm. The site is dry and open flames are prohibited. Fees for the day are as follows: Adult site $5, Adult feast $7, All fees for children (chronologically under 18 years old) are halved and 5 years old and under are free. Family cap of $50. Reservations and/or questions may be submitted to the autocrat, Gytha (Lori Baird email@example.com). You may include the $3 non-member surcharge for adults in your reservation, if applicable, otherwise it will be collected at the door so please do not forget your membership card. Checks should be made out to "SCA Inc., Dominion of Myrkfaelinn".
For those unfamiliar with the facilities available to us at Risley, there are showers available for after fighting. Please note that since Risley is a dorm - the front doors are locked. You can either knock and someone will let you in or you can come in the loading dock on the right side of the building, which will be left propped open and climb up one set of stairs to the event. Sorry for the inconvenience!!
From the North, take Route 13 (exit 11 on I-81 South): Follow 13 South through the town of Dryden. Turn right at the traffic light in Dryden’s village center to stay on 13 South (if road signs start saying “Rt 38” you missed the turn). A few miles further on, at a traffic light, Route 366 goes off to the left. (Route 366 comes in from the right a mile or so before this; don’t get confused.) Turn left onto route 366. At a flashing yellow light where 366 peels off to the left, you will go straight, across the bridge, and enter Cornell University’s campus; this will be Hoy Road. Turn left at the stop sign onto Campus Road and then turn right at the next stop sign onto East Avenue. Just after East Ave. crosses the gorge bridge, Risley Hall will be on your left – a turreted, red brick building.
From the Southeast: Take I-81 North to NYS Route 79 at Whitney Point. Follow 79 into Ithaca; at the first traffic light, turn right onto Stewart Avenue (the street is fashioned with red bricks), and follow from *** below.
From Elmira and points West: Take Route 17 E to 13 N. Route 13 will become one-way halfway through Ithaca. Once it does so, turn right onto Buffalo Street (Byrne Dairy will be on the right corner). Stay on Buffalo Street as it goes uphill towards a flashing yellow cautionary light at Stewart Avenue. Turn left here and follow from *** below.
From the Northwest: Leave I-90 at exit 42 to take Route 96 South (Geneva exit). Carefully follow the route signs through Geneva. Stay on Route 96 into Ithaca until it crosses Route 13 North (South Meadow Street). Turn left onto Route 13, then turn right onto Buffalo Street (Byrne Dairy will be on the right corner). Stay on Buffalo Street as it goes uphill towards a flashing yellow cautionary light at Stewart Avenue. Turn left here and follow from *** below.
From Auburn: Take 34 South towards Ithaca. In Lansing turn left at the light to stay on 34 South (Rogue Harbor is on your left) Go 3 miles, turn left at the fork onto Cayuga Heights Rd. Go another 3 miles and turn left on Thurston Ave. (If you miss it you will suddenly be on a bridge above Ithaca Falls) Go ½ mile – Risley Hall is on your right - a turreted, red brick building
*** Continue on Stewart Avenue across a bridge
until you reach a 4-way stop (this is AFTER the
intersection with two right turns). Turn right
onto University Ave. and proceed up the hill to
the first traffic light. Turn left and cross the
bridge; Risley Hall is the first building on the
left – a turreted, red brick building.
