Middle Kingdom Welcomes New Royal Heirs

The Middle Kingdom's Crown Tournament was held May 25, 2003, in the Barony of Fenix (Fort Mitchell, Kentucky). Sir Alasdair MacFhearghius won the Tournament for the honor of his Consort, Guenievre du Dragon Vert. Over forty entrants competed in the Crown Tournament, held at the Drawbridge Inn in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky.

In the semi-finals, Theodoric von Rostok, fighting for Alexandra la Noire, defeated Ivar Idthr Drengr, who fought for the honor of Igraine Gunnirsdottir. Alasdair MacFhearghius, fighting for the honor of Guenievre du Dragon Vert, was the victor over Tarquin, who was inspired by Aibhilin ni Dhomhnaill.

The final round pitted Alasdair against Theodoric. Like the semi-finals, this round was a best-two-of-three encounter using different weapon styles selected by the combatants. In the final bout of the round, the combatants called a hold after Alasdair struck a head shot to Theodoric. His Majesty Pieter rose as the combatants courteously discussed whether the blow was valid, and addressed them. "You asked me," he said, "before this tournament began, to offer my opinion on any blows that were questionable. Theodoric, you're dead."

Theodoric fell to the floor, acknowledging the blow formally and conceding the Crown Tournament to his honorable opponent, Alasdair. A great cheer arose from the assembled populace.

Later, Their Majesties Pieter and Nan Astrid held Court, and bestowed a coronet upon His Royal Highness Alasdair. Alasdair thereupon claimed the honor he had won in noble combat, and placed the Princess coronet upon the brow of his consort, Her Royal Highness Guenievre.

Congratulations to Their Royal Highnesses, Alasdair and Guenievre, and salutations to all of the noble combatants and consorts who participated in the Crown Tournament.
