Records found by Giuspppe Pallanti, author of 'Mona Lisa Revealed: The True Identity of Leonardo's Model', indicate that the model for one of the greatest paintings in western history died on July 15, 1542 at the convent of Sant'Orsola, where she spent her final years.

Lisa del Giocondo, wife of Francesco del Giocondo, known to us as the Mona Lisa, may have been buried out of a convent in Florence after her death in 1542.
