First, this is THE Middle Eastern/belly- dancing/all you can eat/all you can dance/all you can drum wonderful event that is one of the cornerstones of Unser Hafen! We have classes in beginning belly dance, Asian-infused belly dance, and a multi-hour Hafla! We will also have wonderful classes such as Middle Eastern Personas, Turban Wrapping, Arabic Alphabet, and the art of Henna! Or, if you just want to eat and eat and eat and eat and eat...you are definitely in luck! Bring your feast gear, because we will have a glorious feast consisting of lamb, meat wrapped in pastry, pilaf, couscous, a flatbread bar, haroset, an immense array of vegetable delicacies including carrot tzimmes, stuffed dates, baklava and ...? And if this inspires you to try your hand at cooking, we have a class on the Culinary Quest of the Middle East. If you've already been inspired to whip up a delicacy, we will greatly appreciate anything you wish to pass. (We do request that you bring an ingredients card with your dish, so people with allergies do not put themselves in harms way.) You may also wish to note that this is a wet site for those above the age of 21, so please feel free to bring anything that you have made!
Or, maybe you're a musician-we have beginning drumming for kids of most ages, and a Sufi music class! Plus, I'm sure that if you can hold your own with drumming, you may be invited to drum during the Hafla! What a great way to learn-by doing! And this event gives you the opportunity to learn by doing! And, for the shopaholics, we have merchants available! Or, if you are a volunteeraholic (and you know who you are!) we have wonderful opportunities to volunteer! We will also have court at the whim of Royalty present. We have a fix for just about everyone!
Other important information! The site is: Knights of Columbus Hall; 121 N. Meldrum; Fort Collins, CO 80521. The classes and feast fee: $7 for 12-up, children 6-11: $3; and under 6: free! There is no non-member surcharge.
Site opens at 1 P.M; closes at 10:30 P.M. Parking is very limited-we recommend carpooling, but if you need a parking space, please park on the south side of the parking lot in the non-numbered spaces. Spaces on the North side of the building that are numbered are for the apartment complex and violators will be towed. There is also additional parking on the street in the diagonal spaces, and in the school lot across the street.
Parents, we will have few activities for children, but as this is a wet site, you will need to be with your children at all times. You also know your child(ren) better than anyone else. If you think they may be bored with dancing and drumming, please bring them something to help them occupy their time. I'm afraid the weather will not allow us to boffer!
Decorations are welcome and invited! However, the hall asks that you have mats for underneath your candles to catch wax, and that if you wish to hang banners, you use a nail already provided in the walls. Pets are not allowed unless they are service animals for people in need. Thank you!
If you wish to attend and need loaner garb, please let me know before Friday, so that I may coordinate with our Hospitaller. If you wait until the last minute, we may be unable to assist you, and then you not only lose out on a fantastic event, but we lose out on the great joy that is your presence! (Please do not make the autocrat sad...A sad autocrat is not a good thing...)
