Piffaro, the Renaissance Band, Comes to the Cleveland Museum of Art

Piffaro, the Renaissance Band, a six-member ensemble, will perform at the Cleveland Museum of Art Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $18.00 and $20.00 and may be purchased online or by contacting the Museum at 216-421-7350 or 1-888-CMA-0033. As part of its Special Exhibition Series, the Cleveland Museum of Art will present Piffaro, the Renaissance Band, on Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at 7:30 pm. Piffaro, The Renaissance Band, uses a remarkable array of period instruments including shawms, sackbuts, krumhorns, lutes, recorders and percussion instruments to bring to life the music of 15th and 16th century Florence. Piffaro performs a variety of music heard in the streets, courts and chapels of Renaissance Italy. They will play works by Hugo de Lantins, Guillaume Dufay, Heinrich Isaac, Alexander Agricola, Johannes Ghiselin, Joan Ambrosio Dalza, Benedetto Pallavicino, Orazio Vecchi, and Giovanni Ferretti.

This concert is being presented in conjunction with the Cleveland Museum of Art's special exhibit "Raphael and His Age: Drawings from the Palais des Beaux-Arts, Lille" The music of this group was all composed during the lives of the most celebrated Renaissance masters who were associated with the most powerful city-states of Italy.
