Plan of St. Gall online

A website has been created to showcase the Plan of St. Gall (Codex Sangallensis 1092), "the earliest preserved and most extraordinary visualization of a building complex produced in the Middle Ages."

The Plan was created at the monastery of Reichenau in Switzerland during the period 819-26 CE on five pieces of parchment. The collection includes ground plans for forty structures including buildings, gardens, fences, walls, a road, and an orchard. The creators of the Plan are unknown as are their reasons for its creation.

In addition to digital photos of the parchments, the website includes Quicktime™ models of the structures.
