World of Weaving

description:
The Shire of Lost Forest is pleased to announce that in addition to the 24 classes already being offered on October 28th, we will be hosting, in conjunction with the University of Central Missouri (formerly CMSU) Archives and Museum, a special presentation of "World of Weaving: A Cross-Cultural Examination of Weaving."

The exhibit will feature traditional textiles from Saudi Arabia, Native America, Latin America, China, Europe and Africa. The exhibit will be open for SCA participants only on Saturday October 28th from 1-4:30pm. Presentations will include a working warp-weighted loom, drop spinning, middle eastern embroider, medieval, east Asia, and reenacting Anglo-Saxon culture with an emphasis on camping.

Featured Presenters include:

  • Amber Clifford, Anthropology instructor and Museum Curator
  • Dr. Mary Ellen Rowe, Professor of History
  • Dr. Sean Kim, Asian History Specialist

The museum is located across the street from the Lovinger building in the JCK library. The presenters have asked that I pass along their desire to assist with any research or projects you maybe working on. The classes will most likely be held in the Museum, please watch the schedule for exact times.

At this time the exact class schedule is still being worked out by the Professors. I hope to have the information by Wednesday. Please consider coming to this unique opportunity to see (and potentially handle) examples of period fabrics from around the world. (Not all fabrics are period, but they are doing their best to pull everything the museum has on textiles for our time period).

I have been asked to provide an indication of interest in both the museum exhibit and the proposed presentations. Please, if you think you will make it drop me an email off list so I can give them some estimate of how many to expect.

If you have any questions, about either this exhibit or the event in general, please don't hesitate to ask.

Just one more thing: This is a FREE event with a FREE feast for the first 50 people to sign up at troll, and all teachers get a FREE spot when they troll in (does not affect the populace seats).

Please consider joining us on October 28th.
