"The Legacy of Genghis Khan" Exhibit in Los Angeles

An exhibit, "The Legacy of Genghis Khan: Courtly Art and Culture in Western Asia 1256-1353," will be at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art April 13-July 27, 2003. The Los Angeles area will be treated to a rare and beautiful look at the effect of the Mongol Empire on western Asia at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art this spring and summer. According to the press release, the exhibit will be "the first exhibition to explore the important artistic and cultural achievements that occurred in the Iranian world in the aftermath of the Mongol invasions." Featured will be the Ilkhanid Dynasty of Genghis Khan's grandson Hulegu who rulled the territory which now encompasses Iran, Iraq, western Afghanistan, southern Russia, and eastern Turkey, but maintained communication and trade with China. The art and architecture of the region will be a main focus of the event.
