Heralds' Fall Collegium

It isn't just for heralds anymore. Are you new royalty, on a guard, a court member, or a Head-of-Court? Could you be one soon? Do you work in an office that interacts with the heralds at events? Have you ever wondered why heralds do things the way they do? We've got an event for you!

Classes start at 10 am. Classes that are from 10 - 12:30 are aimed at heralds but all are welcome; classes from 1:30 - 4:30 are geared towards heralds, royalty, guard, and court members.

10 - 11:15 am: Day-to-day event heraldic policies and practices (As with all these classes, will have a Q&A session)
This will be a discussion which will include such topics as: Setting up the point, and the morning heralds' meeting, Collecting business for court, collecting business for the morning shout, Managing Volunteers, why we do things the way we do.

11:20 am- 12:30 pm: End of Tourney Season Re-cap
We will take a look at what stood out as good and in need of work this year in the tourney season. We will talk about training issues, lapses in policy, and adherence to policy. We will see what we think needs modification.

12:30 - 1:30 pm: Out to Lunch
Lunch will be off-site unless you bring your own; there will be a fridge and microwave for those that bring their own. A map of local eateries will be available on the day of the event.

1:30 - 2:15 pm: Protocol for Seating and set-up
Eilis will lead a talk about how to set up furnishings according to protocol rules, and why we set up throne and high tables they way we do, and what are the customary variations.

2:20 - 4:30: Court for Herald and Non-Heralds
This will be a discussion about doing court above and beyond the ceremonies. We will talk about what is the herald's job, the guard's job and what is for the members of court to do; we will talk about what is reasonable to be prepared for from the royalty, and how to communicate with all of those different parties so that is looks seamless at showtime.

The site is Crystal Middle School, 400 Whispering Bay Ln, Suisun City, CA 94585. The site will open at 8:30 am and close at 5:30 pm. The site fee will be $5 for members and $8 for non-members, but it may be waived on the day of the event. A light breakfast and coffee will be provided.

Directions: From I-80 - go to Hwy 12 East in Fairfield towards Suisun City/Rio Vista. Take Hwy 12 to Marina Blvd and turn south (right). Take Marina to Driftwood Dr and turn west (right). You will see the school's field on your left. Take Driftwood to where Josiah Circle allows you to turn left and enter the circle. Go about a quarter turn and turn right onto Whispering Bay. Take the fourth entrance into the parking; you may park in the Staff Parking area on the side of the school. Location:
