Odyssey Written by a Woman?

Bearded statues aside, one scholar now believes that the epic poems the Iliad and the Odyssey were probably written by a woman.

Andrew Dalby, author of Rediscovering Homer, believes that the poems were falsely attributed to Homer by Herodotus because the legend already existed in his time but that the works were written between 630 and 650 B.C.E., after Homer's death. Dalby also writes, "In many oral traditions, the best and most reliable creators, the ones who are used by folklore collectors, happen to be women."
