Blood Spilled During Australian Demo

A medieval educational demo for elementary school students in Brisbane, Australia turned bloody when one of the re-enactors was slightly injured by a rapier blade.

The fighter, from the group "Living History," had his blood spilled during a rapier demonstration. One student became ill at the sight of blood and was sent home.

The "injury" was to the cuticle of a demonstrator's thumb. It was fixed with a band-aid. The ill student had attended school with a note from the parents indicating the student was not well, and the sickness was not connected with the demonstration. The journalist was a parent of one of the primary school (in US parlance, elementary school). Living History is a company that demonstrates professionally in schools and is not connected to the SCA at all. Its presenters are drawn mainly from living history (metal weapons) groups.
