16th Century Turkish Warship Found Off Cyprus

Amateur divers off the coast of Cyprus have stumbled across the wreck of a ship believed to have taken part in the 1570 to 1571 Ottoman siege of Famagusta.

So far three canons and an anchor have been found. Authorities want to undertake a more detailed excavation in hope of finding more remains. Turkish victory at the siege ended Venetian dominance on Cyprus and began 300 years of Ottoman influence.
