Pelican Injured in Caid

A Caidan pelican (the kind with feathers, not the kind wearing a medallion) was injured on Pacific Coast Highway in Orange County, California on Thursday as a car struck her. Though the driver was sober, wildlife officials say that the pelican was "probably intoxicated."

"The driver was not hurt. The pelican needed surgery for a broken foot and also had a gash on her pouch.

'She's hanging in there,' Birkle said.

'Pelicans have excellent eyesight, and they are unlikely to have flown into a car without some kind of intoxication,' Birkle said."
