In Search of the Lost Mission of Santa Isabel de Utinahica

Amateur archaeologists in the state of Georgia are on a mission - or looking for one: the lost mission of Santa Isabel de Utinahica, built in the 17th century somewhere near Jacksonville.

Researchers know that a mission was constructed with the goal of converting local Native Americans to Christianity and that it was somewhere near Jacksonville, Georgia. They just don't know where. This summer, teams of professional archaeologists will work with students and volunteers to attempt to find the site of the mission.
