The mostly intact skeleton was discovered in 2002 and was thought to be that of the Captain. DNA testing with samples from relatives seems to have disproved that theory, but they did show that the remains were those of a European with a good diet.

Extensive DNA testing has yet to reveal the identity of a skeleton found in the Jamestown, Virginia excavations. Researchers now doubt that the remains belong to Captain Bartholomew Gosnold.
