This is Essex: A silver Thor hammer dating from the ninth century has been declared a
"treasure trove" by a Chelmsford court.
Barry Cohen of Southend may have found a real treasure. Using a metal detector,
he discovered a hammer on farmland near Chelmsford. Now the British Museum may
be interested and the court has had the object declared a "treasure trove." In
England, if an object contains a certain amount of precious metal, the British
Museum is notified.
