Attention costumers: Husqvarna/Viking recalls sewing machine for safety problem

Owners of the Husqvarna Viking Designer I Sewing and Embroidery Machine should check their unit's serial number to see if it is affected by this safety recall due to an electrical arcing problem.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (a government agency), the problem is that "electrical arcing can occur in the machine's power supply, posing a risk of fire."

The Designer I machines typically sell for over US$5,000, so this issue is likely to be of greatest interest to very serious amateur or professional costumers. The linked page (see below) has a list of serial numbers and manufacture dates, and a description of the machine, so that you can tell for sure if your unit is affected.

My wife works for the company and there's a little bit of clarification to the recall notice. This is actually a renewal of the recall notice that was previously issued, not a new recall. If you are concerned, or do have a machine that has an affected serial number *that has not already been looked at by a dealer*, please take the machine to your local Husqvarna/Viking Dealer.
