The 16-foot-long mural is broken into thousands of pieces which are being painstakingly reconstructed to reveal a lavish landscape of animals and mythical figures. It is believed to have been painted around 1530.

A recently unearthed Aztec mural, painted shortly after the Spanish conquest, combines Aztec mythology with Christian symbols including a large black and white cross.
