Archaeological excavations of the town have proven extremely productive according to Rachel Grahame, project officer with Tees Archaeology. "We are finding a lot more items than we expected, and these finds are certainly of regional importance," she said.

Construction crews working on a project to create a new town square in Hartlepool, England were surprised to unearth the remains of a medieval town complete with "medieval properties, pots and relics of iron smelting."
