Vatican Debates Recognition of Veronica's Veil

A mysterious Christian icon known as Veronica's Veil is being considered for recognition by the Catholic Church. The veil is purported to carry the imprint of Christ's face and resides in a remote monastery in Italy's Abruzzi region.

Legend states that the face of Jesus became imprinted on the veil when St. Veronica used the cloth to mop Christ's brow on his way to Calvary. Recently, local bishop, Bruno Forte began offering "plenary indulgences" to visitors to the shrine, a step toward recognition of the icon.
