Professor Dumbledore Part Recast for Third Harry Potter Film Sir Michael Gambon has reportedly been cast in the part of Professor Dumbledore, kindly headmaster of Hogwarts, in the upcoming Harry Potter movie. Gambon will replace Richard Harris, who passed away after playing Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter movies, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The cast and crew of the third film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, are scheduled to begin shooting next week.

A number of prominent actors, including Sir Ian McKellen, who plays Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings films, were said to be under consideration for the part. Ultimately, Gambon, who has also appeared in Gosford Park, was selected.
