Fisherman Nets Ancient Persian Helmets

Kathimerini: A fisherman working off the coast of Mt. Athos has caught two Persian helmets, possibly from a fleet that was sunk while fighting against the ancient Greeks. Archaeologists believe that two helmets found by a Greek fisherman might have belonged to members of a Persian fleet shipwrecked in 492 BCE. The wreck would have happened during the first of the Persian Empire's three campaigns waged against the Greeks. The helmets were founde near Sykia on the Sithonia Peninsula, west of Mt. Athos.
