Iona II

Archaeologists working in Scotland believe they have found the site of a second monastery founded in the 6th century by St. Columba, founder of Iona.

Believed to be of the same period of time, the monastery at Portmahomack, Easter Ross may also have produced elaborate books and was probably ransacked by Viking raiders. Artifacts found include tools used to prepare vellum such as whetstones, burnishers, and small pebbles, all discovered litered around a workshop floor.
