New exhibit on books of hours at the Getty

The Getty Museum in Los Angeles has two new exhibits on medieval books of hours on display. "Painted Prayers: Books of Hours from the Morgan Library" and "A Masterpiece Reconstructed: The Hours of Louis XII" will both run through January 8.

"Painted Prayers" displays 58 manuscript or printed books, including some of the most famous books from the Morgan Library collection. For more information about the exhibit, see www.getty.edu/art/exhibitions/painted_prayers.

For the first time in over three centuries, "A Masterpiece Reconstructed" brings together the text and fifteen miniatures from the Hours of Louis XII, painted by Jean Bourdichon at the end of the 15th century.
