Considered one of the holiest Orthodox sites in Greece, the monastery was looted 700 years ago by the Almogavers. The reconstruction project, which cost $238,000, restored parts of the building constructed in the 10th century.

700 years after it was looted by Catalan mercenaries, Vatopedi Monastery in northern Greece will celebrate a two-year restoration project funded by the Catalan administration.
