New York lecture series showcases historical medicine

The New York Academy of Medicine hosts a four-part lecture series, beginning September 27, on the subject of medicine in ancient and medieval times.

The lectures include "The Art of Medicine in the Ancient Eastern Mediterranean" (September 27), "The World of Ancient Egyptian Medicine" (October 27), "'An Ailment Not to be Treated': The Rationality of Pre-Modern Surgery" (November 29), and "Gynecology and Surgery: Alliances of Knowledge and Practice in the Premodern Period" (December 7). All four lectures are held at the NYAM headquarters in New York City, and they are free and open to the public.
