Bards and Bows

The Shire of Sterlynge Vayle welcomes all back to the Damp Dragon Inn for Bards and Bows on September 2 - 4, 2005. This event will be held at Camp Sertoma, Johnson Road (no number), in Windsor, NY. The site opens at 6:00 P.M. on Friday and closes at noon on Sunday. Anyone still lingering after noon will be pressed into service for site clean up.

This event will offer archery events of all kinds including combat archery, royal rounds, team archery combat, and even an archery combat style game that any good gentle can play!. Combat archers choose your fighting buddies, because we will be having a combat event that will team a heavy fighter or two with an archer against similar teams on the field.

Though this event does focus on archery, we will not be ignoring those who want to whack people with big sticks. We will be having a heavy weapons tourney in the form of a Viking Cloak Tournament, as well as fencing combat.

In keeping with the bardic theme of the event, we are hosting performance events, such as music, singing, and poetry recitals. There will be a competition for the best, funniest, or most tongue-in-cheek fighter introduction - think of the bard character in "A Knight's Tale". We are also planning children's activities to keep the younger ones entertained.

As always, a wondrous feast is being planned for you to enjoy. This year we will be savoring the cooking of Lori Littlejohn. The feast is being limited to 80 gentles, so be sure to get your reservation in early. Please keep in mind that the only reservation we can guarantee is a paid reservation.

The cost for this event is $14.00 onboard and $8.00 offboard. Children aged 5 - 17 are half price, and babes under 5 are welcome at no cost, so bring the whole family. To further encourage families to join in the fun, we are instituting a family cap of $40.00 onboard and $22.00 offboard. There is outdoor camping space and crash space in the main hall at no charge, and bunk beds are available in the hillside dormitory for just $3.00 per night. We will be collecting the standard tribute to the SCA of $3.00 from anyone not carrying the proper membership card.

Classes are being planned, but anyone wishing to teach a class on any aspect of Bardic or Archery activities are welcome to do so, just contact the autocrats so we may plan our class schedule. Bards who wish to perform or teach are encouraged to contact the autocrats for reduced feast charges. Merchants are welcome, but please let us know if you are bringing goods. Please address any other questions or concerns to the autocrats. The autocrats for this event are Robert "Bob the Herald" O'Connor (mka Phil Smith) and Katherine "Kayley" O'Connor (mka Michele Greenmun)
