Oldest Black Sea Shipwreck Found

In Sofia, Bulgaria, explorers have located the remains of an ancient ship that may provide clues to the culinary habits of ancient Greeks. Bob Ballard, the explorer who found the wreck of the Titanic, has located the remains a 2500-year-old ship in the waters of the Black Sea. Said to be the oldest such wreck ever found in that area, the ship went down some time between 300 and 500 BCE.

The wooden parts of the ship are long gone, but numerous amphorae (a type of clay vessel) and other remnants of the ship's cargo remain. Scientists believe the ship may have been carrying preserved food that would be sold in the Greek ports of call.
