Historical research has uncovered the existance of a bustling town, now experts hope to find physical evidence. "We might find the remains of the merchants' houses as well as the 'backyards' of houses which were always a hive of activity for small traders such as shoemakers and butchers," said Tees Archaeology project officer Rachel Grahame.

A team of archaeologists working on a Teesside site on Hartlepool's Headland hope to find a medieval town. Previous digs have undercovered traces of buildings dating to the Middle Ages.
