The Incipient Shire of Wyndhame Needs Your Help!

We are doing a demo at the Vermont Renaissance Festival this year as a way to increase our membership and let folks know about our Shire, and the Society for Creative Anachronism.

ARE YOU A FIGHTER, A FENCER, A COSTUMER, A CALLIGRAPHER, AN ENTERTAINER, OR HAVE ANOTHER SCA SKILL, CRAFT, OR INTEREST?
If you can say Yes to any of the above questions, then we need You to make our demo a success. The Faire can still use some entertainers; so if you would like to do that as well, contact Pacita, the Independent Acts Coordinator, at pacita@vtrenfest.com

DO YOU HAVE A PERIOD PAVILION OR A PERIOD CAMP SET-UP?
Bring it and set it up in our encampment! We will have our own area at the Renaissance Faire site as though we are following Queen Elizabeth I on her visit to the country. We want to make it as nice and authentic as possible, so the more pavilions and other accouterments, the better.

DO YOU BELONG TO A GROUP IN NEW ENGLAND OR THE SURROUNDING AREA? ARE YOU LOOKING FOR NEW MEMBERS?
Attending the Faire and helping us can also help you. Last year the Faire had about 7,000 visitors and this year they are expecting 10,000-15,000. Patrons from all over New England (and other areas) travel to Vermont to enjoy the Faire, so this would be a wonderful opportunity for you to connect with people from your area and tell them about your group and the SCA activities there.

YOUR REWARDS FOR HELPING US WITH OUR DEMO.
The SCA Folks that participate in our encampment will get: FREE Admission to the Vermont Renaissance Festival Food Camping for the weekend and there is a possibility that you may be able to camp during the week if you want to stay in Vermont, this is still being worked out by the Faire Producers and the site. Period Pavillions will be set up within the Wyndhame Encampment, modern tents in a different area. The satisfaction of assisting The Incipient Shire of Wyndhame in our efforts to have a successful Demo.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO?
Bring yourself, friends, family, and your period accouterments to the Faire. Actively participate in our area and show the Patrons the range and scope of activities of the SCA. There will be three scheduled demonstrations each day of the Faire and we need our SCA guests to help with them. The activities will be determined by whoever is available and what they can do, whether it is fighting, fencing, entertaining, an A&S display, fashion show, talking about garb, armor, etc. Help set-up and tear down the camp if needed. Our equipment is sparse at this time, so if you can bring (or lend us) things like list ropes and standards, we would be most grateful.

WHAT ARE THE DATES AND TIMES?
The Faire runs for 4 weekends:

  • June 25-26,
  • July 2-3
  • July 9-10
  • July 16-17

The Faire runs from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm

DO I HAVE TO BE THERE FOR EVERY WEEKEND?
Our hope would be that you could make all of the weekends, but you can be there, as often or as little as you want, just let us know.

MERCHANTS
As we are guests at the faire, Merchanting under the auspices of the SCA is not possible to prevent conflicts with the Faire Merchants.

If you wish to sell your wares, contact the Merchant Coordinator, Pacita, at pacita@vtrenfest

VT Renaissance Festival Merchant Applications can be found here: http://www.vtrenfest.com/html/merchants.html

WHERE IS IT HELD AND HOW DO I GET THERE?
The Vermont Renaissance Festival will be held at the Guilford Fairgrounds in Guilford, VT.

From Interstate 91, exit 1 in VT, Rt. 5 South, 1.3 miles. Turn right onto Guilford Center Rd. After 1.8 miles, left onto Weatherhead Hollow Rd. 1.3 miles down the road, turn left onto Fairground Road

WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW?
As the Faire is known for authenticity, we have some rules to follow: The time period is the 1580?s, so SCAdians are asked to wear late period garb, i.e. Elizabethan or Renaissance, and to stay away from Early period or Medieval clothing. Eyeglasses are fine.

Anything modern or out-of-period within the encampment must be covered or kept out of sight of the patrons.

Weapons must be peace tied at all times.

There are no ground fires allowed. Fire bowls are allowed but MUST be attended at all times. You must have a fire extinguisher close by and easily accessible at all times.

The Faire is working on allowing Pavilions and other accouterments to be left up during the week, but Security might be a problem, so it would be best to take your things with you when you leave. We will let you know if they work that out.

If you want free admission to the Vermont Renaissance Festival, to camp, and to get fed, you must pre-register with the Seneschal of The Incipient Shire of Wyndhame.
