"Star Wars" fans injured emulating "lightsaber" sword fighting

In London, two fans of the Star Wars movie series tried to emulate combat with "lightsabers" and were critically injured in the process.

Twenty-year-old Mark Webb and a 17-year-old female friend were trying to make a video recording of a lightsaber duel. They filled glass fluorescent light tubes with flammable fuel in an effort to replicate the glowing lightsaber weapons seen in the film. One of the props exploded, critically injuring both participants. They are being treated for burns at a hospital in Chelmsford, Essex, according to the published report.
