Cudgel War III

Cudgel War is back again, not as bloody as the historical original, but surely as full of events! The honourable Canton of Humalasalo offers you again a wonderful possibility to participate in an Aarnimetsän tent camp. During this 10-day event you have a lot to choose from: there is heavy fighting in tourneys (Nordic 1000 at Thursday, July 28) and three days of war, fencing, archery, arts and sciences lectures and competitions, dance, games and, of course, you get to enjoy the Finnish summer, sauna and socializing round the fire!

The site is the same as last year, Kavalahti scout camp, on the southern coast of Finland. It is only 60 minutes' drive from Helsinki and its international airport (HEL), 90 minutes' drive from Turku, less from the port of Hanko. The site is also easily reachable by public transport.

The event is primarily a camping event, but the main building has a few beds and there's very limited crash space for additional sleepers. Unheated indoor space for hundred is available for activities if weather is less than optimal and there are several saunas to warm up in. Pictures of the site are available at http://www.papa.partio.fi/piirinkampat/kavalahti/.

Three meals are served daily: plentiful breakfast, afternoon snack and hot evening meal (except when replaced by a feast). There's a smaller mid-week feast on Wednesday and a grand feast on the latter Saturday (July 30). Those who prefer to cook their own meals have the use of the smaller kitchens in the main building and the sauna building.

Site: Kavalahti scout camp (no street address) in Kavalahti, Inkoo, Southern Finland. Distance to the nearest bus stop about 1.5 km, the railway station of Inkoo is 3.5 km from the site and the village of Inkoo about 5 km from the site. Site facilities include running (cold) water, hot water is available for the showers in the main sauna. Toilets are dry toilets ("outhouses"), there are some close to each camping ground.

The site opens at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 22, and closes at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 31. Anyone on the site before opening time or after closing time will be considered voluntary work force.

Site rules: The site is damp. Smoking and pets are only allowed outdoors. Those who get a bed MUST bring bed linen, even when sleeping in a sleeping bag. Camp fires are allowed at designated fire pits. If forest fire warning is on, no other fires (tiki torches, candles on the ground etc.) are allowed.

Site fee is counted on nightly basis and there's a separate fee for day trippers. One weekend counts as two nights, two weekends count as four nights. If you stay for 1-4 nights (for example both weekends), the site fee is 5.50 euros/night for SCA/SKA members and 6 euros/night for non-members. If you stay for 5-9 nights, the site fee is 4.50 euros for each night for SCA/SKA members and 5 euros/night for non-members. Day tripping members pay 5 euros, non-members pay 6 euros for a daytrip. SCA/SKA members get the whole event to a discount price of 37 euros (42 euros for non-members), "all-inclusive" (site+all meals) package costs 100 euros for members and 105 euros for non-members. A bed in the main building costs 2 euros/night, crash space costs 1 euro/night. People flying in and/or staying for all or most of the camp have precedence when beds are allocated, if booked before the late fee date.

Meal prices: breakfast 2 euros, afternoon snack 1 euro, warm evening meal 4 euros. Wednesday feast 7 euros, grand feast 10 euros. Note: if you want any of these meals, you will have to book them by July 8!

Late fee: Late fee of 8 euros applies to all reservations made after July 1. Visitors from the euro countries and Sweden are encouraged to pay in advance, but can pay at the door. Finnish residents must pay their camp to the Hämeen keskiaikaseura's account 568000-4268274 latest on July 1 to avoid the late fee.

Cancellation policy: If you cancel by July 1, we'll return all your money. If you cancel between July 2 and July 8, you will get your food money back. If you cancel later than July 8, we may not be able to reimburse you at all. If you have a reservation and neither cancel nor come to the event, we will charge you all costs including late fee of 8 euros and a handling cost of 3 euros.
