Soil samples taken from the site of London's Elizabethan Rose Theatre reveals that the 16th century theatre experience was "a huge party."
In a report for BBC History Magazine, researchers show that theatre attendees drank large quantities of beer and wine and ate huge numbers of shellfish. The site of the Rose was discovered in 1989 and the Heritage Lottery fund plans to establish a permanent display there. |
